There is NO training required.

Do I need a notary bond or E&O Insurance?

Notary bonds and insurance are not required for Virginia notaries. If a Virginia notary decides to purchase a notary embosser, a seal impression inker is recommended to be used in order to make the raised impression photographically reproduced.

Although a notary journal is not required, we highly recommend having this for keeping all of the performed notarizations in order. This may be extremely beneficial in case a notary was to need a form of proof that the notarization was performed correctly.

Is there any legal risk in performing notarial acts?

Yes, due to the fact that a notary grants certain responsibilities and permissions. This is why we would recommend E&O insurance to be safe.
